Parish Pilgrimage to Walsingham

What better way to begin the autumn than by setting out together on pilgrimage? On Saturday 19 September, St Ignatius Parish will join Catholics from across the Diocese of Westminster for the annual diocesan pilgrimage to Walsingham, the National Shrine of Our Lady in England. The theme of the pilgrimage is ‘Mary, cause of our joy.’ Archbishop Richard Moth will accompany us, celebrating the

Pilgrim Mass and leading us in Benediction.

Walsingham, which is located in Norfolk, has been a place of Christian pilgrimage for almost 1,000 years. Tradition tells us that in 1061 Our Lady appeared to Richeldis de Faverches and asked her to build a replica of the Holy House of Nazareth. Though the shrine was destroyed at the Reformation, the Catholic shrine was restored in the twentieth century. In 1934, the Slipper Chapel was declared the National Shrine of Our Lady for Roman Catholics in England, and it remains a much-loved destination for pilgrims from across the country.

The coach will leave St Ignatius Church at 6.45am PROMPT and return at around 8.30pm. The cost is £32.00 (£25 for under-16s) which covers return coach travel and the pilgrimage fee of £7.00pp. Please bring a packed lunch.

Assisted Suicide – Parliamentary Bill

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which seeks to legalise assisted suicide, has returned to the House of Commons. The Bill remains deeply flawed and would have serious consequences in practice. It’s scheduled for a vote on Friday, 11 September 2026. Please contact your MP and urge them to oppose the Bill. Visit the Bishops’ Conference website or scan the QR code, as printed on the poster on the noticeboard, to access resources that will help you contact your MP, explain why the Church opposes assisted suicide, and find answers to frequently asked questions.
